Purchasing Questions
What is PunctSURE used for?
PunctSURE brings new perspective to vascular imaging and vessel cannulation.
The patented ultrasonic vascular access imaging system allows clinicians to
see what they are actually doing and visually identify where they are placing
the needle during the entire cannulation procedure. This helps improve procedure
accuracy and efficiency and reduces the risk of complications by nearly eliminating
the possibility of having to make multiple sticks. back
to top
How is PunctSURE different from other vascular imaging
systems?
PunctSURE utilizes state-of-the-art features in both design and technology.
The PunctSURE system provides real-time procedure monitoring on an easy to
view, high-resolution monitor and is the only vascular access imaging device
to offer dual-view imaging, hands-free operation and a user-friendly software
interface. back to top
Where can PunctSURE be used?
The PunctSURE system can easily be used wherever vessel cannulation procedures
are performed. With a sleek compact design, PunctSURE is easy and convenient
to maneuver, portable for table and bedside use and battery or AC operated.
It also offers a customized utility basket and cord wrap accessories for greater
convenience when moving the system between locations. back
to top
Why do I need PunctSURE?
With vessel cannulation procedures there has always been an element of chance
because traditional techniques are performed blind and they cannot
account for anatomical variation. Now, with PunctSURE, the element of chance
is nearly eliminated. back to top
Is PunctSURE approved by the FDA?
PunctSURE received 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration
for both the procedure kit and imaging system in July of 2002. back
to top
Is the system and procedure billable?
The use of ultrasonic imaging is a billable procedure. The PunctSURE system
is an efficient economical solution for a safer and more accurate procedure.
How long does the PunctSURE imaging process take?
The imaging process normally takes a trained clinician only 60 to 90 seconds.
How do you perform the procedure with both hands free?
The PunctSURE transducer is held in position with magnetic adhesion. This
allows clinicians to use both hands and have more control when inserting the
needle. Using the navigation guides on the transducer then helps insure precise
needle placement and visually confirms needle tip location. back
to top
How does dual-view imaging work?
PunctSURE offers an exclusive T-shaped transducer, which shows both longitudinal
and transverse views of the puncture site. The two images show the vessels
location, layout and how they are positioned relative to each other on a real-time,
split-screen display. Navigate the needle to its final destination by watching
every movement displayed on the screen. back
to top
Are the scanned images of the same vessels?
PunctSURE displays real-time images of the scanned vessels in two planes;
longitudinal and transverse views. The images in both views are of the same
vessels and provide better visualization for needle placement and vessel identification.
What is user-friendly interface?
The touch screen user-friendly software interface allows up to 10 individuals
to pre-set user preferences and input. It also allows you to freeze, save
or adjust images; manage image contrast and brightness and has image print
options. Using the attached PunctSURE stylus, individuals can control and
set personal preferences. back to top
What is the PunctSURE procedure kit used for?
PunctSURE is used in conjunction with a procedure kit. The kit components
are sterile, intended for single use and include adhesive laminate, ultrasonic
conductivity gel, protective sheath, magnetic snap ring and assembly instructions.
Can I use the transducer without the sterile procedure
kit?
The PunctSURE procedure kit contains all the components necessary for use
with the system to visualize internal vessels, precisely locate and identify
veins and arteries such as the internal jugular vein and the carotid artery
prior to attempting venous cannulation. The transducer can image vessels without
the procedure kit, but should not be used in a sterile environment without
the use of the sterile PunctSURE procedure kit. back
to top
Does more conductivity gel provide a better imaging?
Conductivity gel is supplied in each sterile PunctSURE procedure kit and is
important for clear imaging. The conductivity gel allows the ultrasonic wave
to penetrate the body resonate and return to the transducer without being
inhibited by air bubbles. An adequate amount of gel should be applied on the
face of the transducer and on the scanning site. back
to top
How long is the transducer cable?
The PunctSURE transducer cable is 7 feet in length. The cable is easily positioned
on the puncture site and provides flexibility in locating the system in close
proximity to the patient. back to top
What do I do if the system does not turn on?
Verify that the male end of the power cord is plugged into a grounded 120
volt AC outlet and the female end of the power cord is fully seated in the
power connector on the back of the PunctSURE cabinet. back
to top
What does cable not connected mean on the dual image
display?
Verify that the VGA cable and the power cable are properly connected to the
display. back to top
There is no image or only a partial image on the display?
1- Verify that there is conductivity gel on the surface of the transducer,
both inside the protective sheath and on the outside surface of the protective
sheath. 2- Also verify that there are no gaps in the conductivity gel and
no visible bubbles or wrinkles in the protective sheath material that covers
the imaging surface of the transducer. 3- Verify that conductivity gel was
placed on the outside of the protective sheath. There should be gel between
the protective sheath surface and the adhesive laminate. 4- Verify that there
are no visible air bubbles between the adhesive laminate and the patient's
skin. back to top
There is an image on the display but no blood vessel
can be seen?
1- Move the transducer around on the adhesive laminate until you see an image
of a blood vessel. 2- If necessary, reposition the adhesive laminate. back
to top
The PunctSURE Dual Image Display has stopped responding?
Turn the PunctSURE System off and back on. The system will require 30 second
to initialize before an image is visible. back
